The German furniture industry’s turnover reached a 10.2% increase in February 2016, compared to the same month of the previous year, reaching €1.535 billion. According to data provided by the Verband der Deutschen Möbelindustrie (VDM), the increase came due to the leap year that created an additional work day.
Also, the domestic turnover was up by 8.5% and amounted €1.053 billion, while the export turnover reached a 14.2% rise to €482.9 million.
This represented a year-on-year increase, as in February 2015, the turnover’s figures were higher than the ones in February 2014. Thus, there was a 2.1% overall increase, with 1.9% domestic increase and 2.6% rise in exports.
Also, February 2016 surpassed January of the same year, as at the beginning of the year the industry generated an overall €1.256 billion turnover, which was a 0.8% rise compared to the same month of 2015.
As for January 2016 too, the domestic turnover didn’t register any growth and the numbers amounted to €865.8 million. Yet, the export turnover rose to €390.0 million, increasing by 2.8%.
