Exports of Russian lumber fall 25% in 2022 due to sanctions

Sanctions on timber imports introduced mainly by the European Union, the USA and Japan as a result of Russia's invasion of Ukraine resulted in a significant reduction in the export of Russian lumber.    Wood purchases from Russia were also limited by countries such as China, Uzbekistan, Egypt, Azerbaijan, Tajikistan and South Korea, but in this case the main reason was economic factors.    Despite attempts to find new markets in Asia and Africa, Russian sawmills exported 22 million m3 of sawn timber, i.e. 25% less than a year earlier. The value ...
