Alberta’s Minister of Economic Development and Trade told the Alberta Forestry Products Association that the province's lumber industry needs to actively pursue diversifying its markets.
Bilous made the comments in an inverview after addressing the China-Canada Business Assn. He said that with the softwood lumber agreement between the U.S. and Canada coming to a close there is some nervousness among Alberta’s forestry companies.
The bulk of the province's wood products are shipped to the US, said Bilous, and it was unlikely that a new trade deal would be reached within the next three weeks, causing "significant challenges" for the forestry sector.
