Brazilian plywood and MDF manufacturer, Guararapes SA has announced the start of production at its new MDF line in Caçador, Brazil. The total investment in the MDF line reached BRR 320 million (approximately US$ 92,6 million) and will triple the current production capacity from 200,000 m3 per year to 600,000 m3. Guararapes will thus become one of the largest MDF producers in Brazil, with a total capacity of 900,000 m3/year of MDF and plywood.
With the investment in technology, greater flexibility of size and thickness of its wood-based panels, Guararapes expects to reach new export markets, where it is expected to place most of the additional volume, taking into account its export experience with its plywood line.
"We started the feasibility study in 2013, when the economic outlook was good, today the reality is different, but we understand that this type of project is for the medium and long term, we continue to believe in the potential of our country. We will gradually start production with a focus on international markets." commented CEO of Guararapes, Ricardo Pedroso.
For more than three decades in the market, Guararapes manufactures MDF panels and it is one of the largest plywood panel exporter in Latina America. Currently operating with three factories in Caçador/SC (MDF), Palmas/PR (Plywood) and Santa Cecília/SC (Plywood). Guararapes exports its panels to over 50 countries.
