China: Sharp fall in imports of hardwood lumber balanced more softwood lumber imports

In the first half of 2019, the total import of logs and lumber totaled 485.394 million cubic meters, amounting to 9.43 billion US dollars in January-June. 
Lumber imports increased slightly. China imported 18.83 million cubic meters of lumber in the first half of the year, valued at 4.43 billion US dollars, up 4% year-on-year, but the value dropped by 8%.
Among the total imports of lumber, softwood lumber imports increased by 17% to 14.12 million cubic meters, accounting for 75% of total imports. However, hardwood lumber imports fell by 22% to 4.71 million cubic meters.
