Coronavirus: China log inventories are blowing out; supply of logs stuck, while prices are rising

  • The supply of both New Zealand radiata pine as well as European spruce is reducing in China due to a lack of containers and some shipping lines have stopped shipping to China due to the Covid-19 disruptions to the supply chain;
  • Logs are currently locked in ports due to the lack of machinery and people, and logs are even stacked in carparks;
  • The asking price for logs has increased sharply as log traders look to cover their increasing transportation costs.
