New import rules for US hardwood logs in EU

The new EU implementing directive 2019/523 of 21 March 2019 (available on request) concerns the protection measures against the introduction into the Community of organisms harmful to plants or plant products and against the spread in the Community.

The pests "Gesmithia soft Kolarik, Freeland, Utely & Tisserat" and its carrier "Pityophthorus juglandis Balckman" have infested several US states by raising a 6-year moratorium on export unless the logs are treated (check below) .

From September 1st, therefore, the US logs will suffer strong increases for the aforementioned mandatory treatments if they come from infested states, described as follows:
