Sweden: Softwood lumber exports fall on lower demand in EU, UK and China
In the first seven months of 2024, Sweden exported approximately 7.12 million cubic meters of softwood lumber, a 9% decrease compared to the same period in 2023. The European Union, Sweden’s largest market, saw a decline of 10%, with exports totaling 3.69 million cubic meters.Also, exports to the UK and China contributed to the overall decrease. Shipments to Germany fell by 15%, to 363,537 cubic meters, and France experienced a significant reduction of 26%, dropping to 193,843 cubic meters. The Netherlands and Denmark also recorded decreases of 3% and 11%, respectively. Despite these declines, some European markets such as Norway saw slight growth or remained stable, with Norway maintaining export levels at 429,156 cubic meters.
