Tariffs send lumber prices to 30-month high
Lumber futures rose to the highest in more than two and a half years after President Donald Trump ordered an investigation into shipments of the commodity into the U.S. Trump on Saturday asked the Commerce Department to investigate the national security harm posed by lumber imports. Those shipments largely come from Canada, which is already facing the threat of 25 per cent tariffs on its goods. The most-active contract in Chicago rose as much as 3.5 per cent to the highest since August 2022. Shares of some Canadian lumber companies slumped on Monday, with Interfor Corp. dropping as much as 9.9 per cent, the most since June 2022. Canfor Corp. fell as much as 3.5 per cent.
