During the Q1 2016, the British softwood lumber imports increased by 2%, compared to the same period of 2015. According to the latest figures provided by Eurostat, the total volume of imports surpassed the 1,441,958 cbm from Q1 2015 and reached a total volume of 1,477,798 cbm in Q1 2016.
Imports from the European countries, which represent more than 90% of all UK softwood lumber purchases, grew by 5% as compared to January-March 2015. Imports from Sweden grew by 3%, reaching 643,378 cbm, compared to the 626,267 cbm imported during the first quarter of 2015. Also, UK's imports from Latvia increased by 3%, while imports from Finland decreased by -7%.
Though with lower volumes, UK imports of Polish softwood lumber registered the highest increase, of 54% up to 86,660 cbm, as compared to the 56,340 cbm imported during the Q1 2015.
