U.S. sawmills produced 19.229 billion board ft. (bbf) of softwood lumber in the first seven months of 2016, an increase of 3.2% from 18.628 bbf in the same period of 2015.
Western U.S. sawmills contributed 8.123 bbf to the seven-month total, up 0.8% from 8.059 bbf a year earlier, while sawmills in the southern U.S. accounted for 10.216 bbf – up 5.1% from 9.716 bbf in the previous year.
Production in July alone was 2.597 bbf, a drop of 4.5% year-over-year from 2.719 bbf, and down 11.5% from 2.933 bbf in June 2016, ,
